ToggleHistory of Srinagar Highway
The Highway was built in 1973. Originally named the Kashmir Highway until 2020, it was renamed the Srinagar Highway on the observance of Pakistan’s first Youm-e-Istehsal.
The Youm-e-Istehsal is an expression of the country’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people against the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status by the Indian Government.
Although the highway does not connect to Srinagar because it is in the Indian Administration, the Pakistani Government claimed it as part of the country. The Highway is maintained by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
